Finished this lil lovely last night! I don't usually go dark with furniture but for some reason this buffet just looked so masculine and what better color than Slate with gold gilding. I picture it with a glass of scotch on it and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Hmmmm, I think I even smell a cigar burning. OK, OK I know I'm crazy. I find myself doing that all the time, I try to mentally place where each piece would go and each one has it's own little back story. :)
Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!
LOVE it. my favorite piece of yours so far!! You are so talented - I'm so proud of you for doing what you love!
ReplyDeleteThank you Tessa! I was really pleased with how this one turned out, probably because it was outside of my comfort zone. I'm glad you like it!
ReplyDeleteSo, I've been looking for finishes for the furniture that I got and asked a few friends for their opinion (one's a interior designer) and they LOVE this piece!!! Think you could share your secrets? Colors, etc.? ;) Thanks, Love!! You've got an amazing talent!
ReplyDeleteSure! The base color is CeCe Caldwell's paint in Slate. Her line is a chalk/clay paint so quite different than working with regular latex paints. If you have any questions about how to use chalk paint there are some great tutorials on pinterest. After I painted 2 coats of that I put on a clear wax (also Cece Caldwell). Let that dry over night then distressed in the morning with sandpaper. I then went in with a gold gilding paint mixed with the clear wax and highlighted certain parts making it appear like gold paint was showing through from years ago. So much fun and it added a whole new dimension to the piece IMO. After it was finished I buffed it out to get the desired luster. The more you buff the more shine it will have. I wanted a sort of matte finish. I also cleaned up my hardware with Brassco cleaner (from Lowes) just to make it pop against the Slate color. Let me know if you have any other questions! Happy painting!!!! :)
